Planning Applications
The November parish council meeting was well attended by members of public, with particular interest focused on a planning application listed on the agenda. Members considered the comments made before discussing the application and ultimately agreeing on a submission to Dorset Council. All applications considered at the meeting are available to view at the parish council website.
Holt Heath Wildfire Meeting
Scheduled for 20th November and hosted in partnership with the Holt Commoners Association, this event gave residents the chance to hear directly from representatives of Dorset & Wiltshire Fire Service and the National Trust. Presenters shared findings from the Holt Heath Fire, reviewed response actions, and outlined future plans for safety, restoration, and ongoing management of the area. Attendees were also able to ask questions and participate in the discussion.
Highways and Traffic Management
The Parish Council Highways Working Group continue working on a strategy to address traffic volume and speeding concerns within the parish. A recent traffic survey on Smugglers Lane was conducted to assess the need for a Speed Indicator Device (SID). Findings indicated satisfactory compliance with the 40mph speed limit, leading Dorset Council to decline support for a SID at this location. Nevertheless, an approved site has been designated for the Community Speed Watch initiative, which will be operated by our local volunteers.
BT Boxes
Special thanks to Richard Lonsdale and Mary Steele for sourcing and growing plants for the BT Box at Furzehill, now ready with winter bedding for enjoyment in the New Year. Stewarts Garden Centre has generously donated additional plants for all our BT Boxes which are lovely community features. Thank you to everyone involved in the upkeep of the three BT Boxes at Furzehill, Holtwood, and Broomhill.
