Essential Sewer Repairs Gaunts Common

Essential sewer repairs, Gaunts Common

Wessex Water will be carrying out repairs on sewers on Gaunts Common, which need to be relined as part of our ongoing pollution prevention program.

Relining and sealing sewers in this way helps protect the environment, preventing foul water escaping and groundwater entering sewers, which can lead to flooding or storm overflows automatically discharging into rivers or the sea if the system becomes overwhelmed.

You can read more about the work we’re carrying out to protect the environment at wessexwater.co.uk/overflows

This work – an investment of more than £50,000, will take place over one week from Monday 5 to Friday 9 January 2025.

Most of this work will be carried out using ‘no-dig’ techniques, which are quicker and less intrusive than replacing the pipe in a conventional manner. There is further information in the enclosed leaflet.

  • Monday 5 – Friday 6 January – The lane from Trotwood Cottage, Gaunts Common to Lodge Road will be closed to through traffic. Access will be maintained for pedestrians, with a diversion, using the lane from Quornwood to Lodge Road, Woodcutts Lane and Lodge Road in place.
  • Monday 5 - Friday 9 January - A rolling carriageway incursion will be in place on the lane from Horsehoes to Gaunts Common Lane.

Work will also be taking place on private land in the area. There may be some noise disruption while this work, some of which may last into the evening, is carried out but every effort will be made to keep this to a minimum.

Water and sewerage services can be used as normal unless we advise otherwise.

We will shortly be writing to local customers and businesses about this work.
