Holt Neighbourcare Transport

Neighbourcare is a self-funded charity that exists to provide a transport service to residents of Holt, Gaunts Common, Hinton Martell and Horton.

We are in need of more volunteer drivers and welcome anyone who would like to join the team.

The scheme is run by a small group of dedicated local people who organise the operation, take calls, administer the finances and, of course, do the driving.

We help residents who, for whatever reason, cannot drive or use public transport ( does anyone remember that?) to get to the doctors, hospital, dentist, go shopping or even just to see friends.

There is no charge for this service but we do ask for a donation to cover the drivers petrol and running costs. This is commensurate with the distance travelled and we reimburse the drivers for the mileage they drive for each journey.

We don’t aim to make a profit but if, at the end of the financial year, we have surplus funds we often donate to a local charity or good cause. We recently donated towards the cost of urgent repairs to the Holt Parish Hall.

The scheme operates with a small number of volunteer drivers and recently we lost some of our regular drivers due to illness or relocation from the area and this can cause difficulties when trying to match availability of drivers with requests for transport. The job is not too onerous and the more drivers we have available means the fewer the number of times any individual driver may be asked if they can undertake a job.

We really would appreciate your help in ensuring this scheme continues to help the residents of Holt, Gaunts Common , Hinton Martell and Horton. Without sufficient drivers it will cease to operate and you never know when you might need this service yourself.
