Dorset Fraud Prevention Service

Dorset Fraud Prevention Service 'Ask Damian'

Published: 29 Jul 26

Fraud continues to affect people of all ages and backgrounds across Dorset, often causing not only financial loss but significant emotional and mental distress. The impact can be long-lasting and, sadly, can leave victims vulnerable to further scams. To help tackle this, Dorset residents can access Ask Damian, a unique fraud prevention service available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week from Dorset Police. Using their free phone minutes, residents can receive instant fraud prevention advice whenever they need it, helping them make informed decisions before responding to suspicious calls, emails, texts, websites, or requests for money. It can answer questions on all types of fraud from doorstep callers, to romance fraud in a kind and friendly manner. The service is unique to Dorset and provides immediate, practical guidance. During trials, 30% of users took protective action as a direct result of the advice received, helping them avoid potential fraud and the financial and emotional harm that can follow. In addition to the telephone support, users receive a text message containing the advice provided, allowing them to refer back to the information when needed. Read More...

Appeal for information on fly tips around Wimborne and Holt Heath by Dorset Council

Published: 26 Jun 26

Dorset Council’s Environmental Enforcement team is appealing for information over a couple of fly tips, believed to be linked, which happened in a small area to the north of Wimborne. Around the weekend of 20th / 21st June, three different tips occurred. Fly tip one was dumped at the roadside near Holt Forest, https://what3words.com/attend.verb.notch. This a large amount of roofing material including ceiling light panels, roof slates and insulation, wooden roof battens and some car wheels with tyres on. There was also a large lime green bag full of roofing felt. We believe a flatbed tipper was used to dump this waste. Fly tip two was on Holt Heath, in one of the laybys. https://what3words.com/fabricate.conveys.stunner An old bath loaded with wood, broken kitchen units and wall / floor tiles in black sacks was left at the road-side. Fly tip three was in the 2nd layby north out of Wimborne on the B3078. https://what3words.com/overhear.flips.roadmap This fly tip consisted of 6 black sacks full of broken plasterboard and wall / floor tiles matching the tiles that were found at Holt Heath. From receipts found in the fly tips, it is possible that the company used to do the work / clear the waste - came from the Poole area. We believe someone may have had an outbuilding deconstructed in the area and used the builder or another company to clear the waste. If you have seen any activity near your property, matching the items shown, seen anything suspicious in the affected areas, or have evidence such as dashcam or doorbell camera footage, dates or times, please let us know by calling 01305 221000. All information will be treated in the strictest confidence. Read More...

Firewise - getting prepared for the wildfire season - advice from the Dorset Heaths Partnership

Firewise - getting prepared for the wildfire season - advice from the Dorset Heaths Partnership

Published: 18 Feb 26

Spring is nearly upon us and many of us are trying to get those last outdoor winter jobs done in preparation for the warmer weather. There’s still time to get your property wildfire ready, so you can feel as prepared as you can for the coming season. Key jobs to do now: • Clear your gutters – any debris is a prime ember trap for burning material carried on the wind. • Move any flammable material away from your property and external walls – for example, log piles should always be located away from buildings. • Trim back trees and shrubs that are too close to or touching buildings – this reduces the risk of them igniting your home if they catch on fire. Our ‘Preparing your home for wildfire’ leaflet is available on our website and includes all the advice you need to get your home wildfire ready. Why not consider having a community ‘Firewise’ day where you come together to get those jobs done and to support those who may need some help? Following it up with tea and cake is always popular! You can view and download the leaflet from our Firewise webpage at www.dorsetheaths.org.uk/firewise/ where you’ll find all our resources. The Dorset Heaths Partnership. Read More...
