Holt Heath - Burning Cut Gorse Friday 13th March 2026

Please be aware, the contractors for the National Trust will be burning the gorse cut back in February to a burn site on the north side of the Heath on Friday this week – this may extend into the early part of next week. A water bowser will be on site and the National Trust team will be in the area. The Fire Brigade will be aware of the controlled burn. Firewise - getting prepared for the wildfire season - advice from the Dorset Heaths Partnership

Spring is nearly upon us and many of us are trying to get those last outdoor winter jobs done in preparation for the warmer weather. There’s still time to get your property wildfire ready, so you can feel as prepared as you can for the coming season. Key jobs to do now: • Clear your gutters – any debris is a prime ember trap for burning material carried on the wind. • Move any flammable material away from your property and external walls – for example, log piles should always be located away from buildings. • Trim back trees and shrubs that are too close to or touching buildings – this reduces the risk of them igniting your home if they catch on fire. Our ‘Preparing your home for wildfire’ leaflet is available on our website and includes all the advice you need to get your home wildfire ready. Why not consider having a community ‘Firewise’ day where you come together to get those jobs done and to support those who may need some help? Following it up with tea and cake is always popular!
